Environmental Education Coordinator – EcoSpark Environmental Organization – Toronto, Ontario

Position Description: We are looking for a dynamic, motivated, and well-organized individual to join the EcoSpark team. The successful candidate will help our Education Team coordinate and implement EcoSpark’s educational programs throughout the Greater Toronto Area. The coordinator will facilitate programming, organize logistics, and aid in further program development of EcoSpark’s education programs. S/he will assist with Nature Academy, an environmental education professional development and coaching program for teachers, and Changing Currents, a water quality monitoring program for students from grades 6 to 12.

This is a full-time contract that is for a nine-month period initially (April to December 2015) with possibility of contract extension.

Position Responsibilities/Tasks:

Coordinate the logistics of EcoSpark’s environmental education programs
Facilitate interactive outdoor workshops for high school students, engaging them in monitoring the health of their local waterways
Facilitate professional development workshops for teachers, engaging them in local outdoor environmental education
Promote educational programs and recruit new participants
Provide remote support for teachers as they undertake educational and stewardship activities
Assist in the development of environmental education resources
Assist in the further development of educational programming
Ensure that database is accurate and up to date with contact and field data
Other duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications:

University degree or college diploma in environmental studies or an environmentally related discipline
Ontario Teacher Certification with qualifications at the intermediate/senior level
Knowledge of water monitoring/issues
Experience facilitating workshops with teachers and/or students
Experience coordinating program/project logistics
Experience developing educational resources
Experience with the formal education system
Proven time management skills and the ability to manage a diverse workload
Written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Attention to detail
Comfort with putting on hip waders and getting into streams!
A Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications:

Ontario Benthic Biomonitoring Network (OBBN) certification

Salary: $30,000 annually, pro-rated to 9-months
