Purpose
The Education and Outreach Officer of the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation reports to the Education Manager. The position provides a wide range of support services for staff that contribute to the achievement of the Foundation’s vision and its mandate to invest in projects that maintain and enhance the health and biological diversity of British Columbia’s fish, wildlife and their habitats so that people can use, enjoy, and benefit from these resources. The position provides education and communication services to the Foundation
Key Activities:
• Manages education website, ecommerce, marketing systems, resource and inventory databases.
• Designs, prepares and coordinates education and outreach communication and learning resource materials.
• Manages, prepares and coordinates content for HCTF social media, enews, website blogs, facilitator SharePoint and listserv content, and project profiles for the Foundation, including the education departments.
• Researches, orders and oversees the purchasing, sales and distribution of education learning materials and other program or communications materials.
• Assists with the post-secondary grant program, including coordinating scholarship recipients, network and engagement events.
Accountabilities
Contributes to the promotion of habitat conservation
• Provides input respecting the management and refinement of work processes to support successful implementation of the Foundation’s mandate.
• Maintains familiarity with the habitat conservation efforts of the Foundation.
Develops relationships
• Builds and maintains effective working relationships with internal clients, funding recipients, stakeholders, suppliers, and other representatives essential to the Foundation.
• Provides customer service and facilitates communications for the Education programs, including post-secondary scholarship recipients, donors and educator networks such as WildBC Facilitators, school programs and education grants.
• Coordinates scholarship recipients and provides ongoing check-ins and support, preparing story profiles, liaising to have candidate present at meetings etc.
Manages inventory, data and marketing of publications, learning resources and other materials
• Manages the website, ecommerce platforms, resource database, and inventory database systems.
• Coordinates the ordering and purchasing of educational program supplies.
• Administers the shipping and receiving, and distribution of books, outdoor learning kit materials, and other publications or materials.
• Processes and distributes education publications and outdoor learning materials sales orders.
• Manages and organizes the education storage and inventory system.
• Assembles and prepares program publications and resource materials.
• Coordinates the shipping for international orders, including brokerage, customs and transport services.
• Sources products as directed by Education team, including product durability, quality, and sustainability.
• Prepares written and visual content for marketing of materials on the website.
• Manages the inventory database and ecommerce platforms.
• Prepares inventory, sales and purchasing reports.
• Responds to inquiries about products.
• Conducts client surveys and evaluations
Coordinates, prepares and manages education, communications and outreach materials design
• Creates and design communications materials in InDesign to prepare social media posts, advertisements, flyers, articles, project profiles, and stories.
• Researches and analyzes content from education grants and school program reports.
• Writes, designs and prepares written and visual content for website social media, e-newsletter, facilitator presentations and other articles or reports.
• Researches and analyzes content from education grants and school program reports to prepare summary reports for sharing.
• Monitors social media and prepares posts and responses for the Communications Officer.
• Shares HCTF related information from broadcast and internet media.
• Oversees and creates design and production of learning resources and communications materials.
• Coordinates the eStore and Resource Room marketing and communications.
• Manages photo inventory, releases and catalog.
• Manages purchasing and inventory of learning resource, promotional and facilitator network materials.
• Coordinates with contractors to develop video and multimedia production, graphic design, and or photography.
• Coordinates the planning and logistics for education conferences, meetings, and other events.
• Coordinates e-news, press releases, blogs and manages distributions lists.
• Prepares and organizes correspondence and materials for grants, conferences, meetings, and events.
Provides administrative support.
• Assists with the booking and organization logistics for events, conferences, meetings, and workshops.
• Responds to inquiries regarding grants, purchasing, sales, invoicing, contracts and education grant payments.
• Assists with the coordination of education and communication committee and other meetings.
• Handles various accounting transactions and processes related to program delivery and publication sales.
• Assists with the tracking of education and communications expenditures and work plan.
• Education records maintenance (electronic and hardcopy).
• Completes other assignments.

Dimensions
• Provides administrative services to 3 staff.
• Travel: This position involves travel of 3-4 days at a time, 3-6 times per year, for education conferences, facilitator network meetings, Board meetings, and other events.
• Occasional weekend and evening work: at key times of the year evening and weekend work may be required.
Compensation:
Wage Range: $60,951.03 to $69,137.95 per annum.
This is a union position with a classification of Education Officer (BCGEU Grid 18, Step 1), starting increment of 16 days annual leave, and eligible for a full benefits package after successful completion of a probation period.
Qualifications
High School graduation plus a bachelor’s degree or diploma in office administration or, for persons without the forgoing, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
This job requires experience as well as demonstrated success in:
• Delivering a wide range of administrative support services to clients within an organization;
• Professional writing, editing and proofing documents;
• Maintaining records and databases, utilizing critical attention to detail; and
• Collecting and organizing information and documents for internal clients and stakeholders.
The successful candidate must have the ability to:
• Deliver services under time constraints while maintaining a high level of attention to detail, prioritizing appropriately to meet deadlines;
• Build effective relationships with internal clients, external stakeholders and service providers;
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
• Exercise independence, initiative, discretion and use judgment, tact, and diplomacy when dealing with issues.
• Occasionally travel for business within BC
• Drive in BC (i.e. possess and maintain a valid driver’s license)
• Lift and move materials up to 75 lbs.
Preference may be given to applicants who have:
• Familiar with learning resources for early years through to post-secondary.
• Familiarity with BC’s fish, wildlife, and habitats
• Familiarity or experience working with BC’s public school system
• Experience preparing learning resource documents, e-newsletters or other communications documents
• Experience working with databases. InDesign, Shopify and Word Press
• Written communication skills in both English and French
