Duties: College of the North Atlantic Child Care Centre is the demonstration centre for the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program at the College.  Throughout the program, students are trained in the theory and practice of working with children and families.  The Centre’s mandate is to model appropriate strategies for students to use when working with children and families and to help students link their practices in the centre to the theory introduced in the classroom.  Early Childhood Educators at the centre participate in curriculum planning and implementation for the children and mentoring students during field placements and during lab components of relevant courses.  The Centre provides quality child care for children ages 6-78 months.  The successful incumbent will perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate a strong knowledge of child development and the foundations of early childhood education, current provincial child care legislation and standards, the standards of care outlined in the College of the North Atlantic ECE Program, as well as strong commitment to providing quality care to children and families.  Strong communication and organizational skills are required as well as the ability to analyze situations, problem solve and facilitate appropriate strategies for a child care environment, while providing guidance and support to students and establishing professional relationships. Qualifications would normally have been acquired through the completion of a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and receipt of Level II Child Care Services Certification in Preschool, School Age and Infant Care classifications as outlined in the NL Child Care Services Act and Regulations. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. A current First Aid Certificate, an updated immunization record, a current satisfactory Child Protection Records Check and a current satisfactory Certificate of Conduct that includes a vulnerable sector check, are required.

Salary: CN24 – $37,237.20 to $40,222.00 per annum plus Labrador allowance.
