Dog Control Officer II and Dog Control Officer I (Term)
We are seeking applications for two positions: Dog Control Officer II (Full-time) and Dog Control Officer I (Full-time, Term). Reporting to the Chief Bylaw Enforcement Officer, you will help to maintain public safety and recognize that responsible dog ownership is essential to the service. Your excellent communication skills and calm and effective approach when dealing with the public is vital to providing dog control bylaw enforcement for the Regional District of Central Okanagan.
The Dog Control Officer II is responsible for enforcing Regional District dog control bylaw enforcement duties within the Regional District of Central Okanagan. This position will respond to public complaints, making judgment calls on alleged infractions, issuing tickets, apprehending dogs and investigating alleged violations of dog control bylaws. You will assist in staffing the dog pound, maintaining records of dog complaints, and be required to prepare and prosecute cases for trial and testify during the course of prosecution.
The successful candidate for Dog Control Officer II position will have minimum two years’ experience as a Dog Control Officer (or equivalent), completed grade 12, completed the Bylaw Investigative Skills Level II (or equivalent), and hold a valid BC Drivers’ License with record of safe driving.
The Dog Control Officer I (term) is responsible for enforcing Regional District dog control bylaw enforcement duties within the Regional District of Central Okanagan. This position will respond to public complaints, making judgment calls on alleged infractions, issuing tickets, apprehending dogs and investigating alleged violations of dog control bylaws. You will assist in staffing the dog pound and maintaining records of dog complaints.
The successful candidate for Dog Control Officer I term position will have experience as a Dog Control Officer (or equivalent), completed grade 12, completed the Bylaw Investigative Skills Level I (or equivalent), and hold a valid BC Drivers’ License with record of safe driving.
Both positions require experience in dog behavior and ability to physically restrain aggressive and/or dangerous dogs is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential to educate dog owners about responsible dog ownership, bylaws, and to determine how to proceed in widely varied circumstances. The successful incumbents will have excellent interpersonal skills with a strong teamwork approach. These positions require flexible work hours to meet operational requirements.
Salary Information: Dog Control Officer II $30.28 per hour; Dog Control Officer I $27.15 per hour and a full range of benefits.
