The Rising Academy Network is a start up social enterprise working to create sustainable, high quality and innovative schools in Sierra Leone. Our organization is dedicated to providing sustainable and creative educational programing to improve the quality and accessibility of education in this region.
Position:
We are currently searching for driven and self-motivated curriculum writers to create original unit plans in the following subject areas: science, math, literacy, and social studies. Individuals must demonstrate a strong commitment to education, community development and social justice practices. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in work that is making an immediate impact on the lives of children. It is a 15-week contract position with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities:
Create 3-4 lesson plans daily
Conduct necessary research to ensure lessons are: well thought out, level appropriate, accessible, culturally relevant, engaging, clear and concise
Attend weekly/bi-weekly meetings with Project Director
Competencies:
An understanding of effective curriculum writing/planning strategies
Understanding of inquiry, cooperative and project based learning
Understanding of how to write culturally and socially appropriate lesson plans for specific levels of learning
Understanding of how to differentiate lesson plans
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Detail orientated
Motivated, self-directed worker
Works well in a small team
Good with meeting tight deadlines
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree
Bachelor of Education degree (all age divisions welcomed)
Experience writing curriculum and classroom teaching
Master of Education degree an asset but not essential
Experience volunteering/working in Africa an asset but not essential
