Greater Victoria Public Library (GVPL) is an innovative and busy library system with one of the highest per capita usage rates in Canada. Our vision is to inspire literacy, lifelong learning and community enrichment for all and we serve more than 311,000 residents in the Greater Victoria area. GVPL operates 10 library branches in premises that are municipally owned or leased.
We are looking for an experienced service-oriented individual who will bring in-depth knowledge and significant facilities management experience to this new position. You are responsible for the development, administration and delivery of library facility management services through liaison and collaboration with municipal building owners or lessors to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff and the public.
You are a positive, strong communicator who can build effective working relationships and have led a variety of facility related projects. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Facilities, you will contribute to and implement the facilities plans for the various branches within the GVPL library system and, set standards and procedures to ensure the most effective use of library resources. In this role, you will work cooperatively and collaboratively as a member of the management team in meeting GVPL’s strategic goals.
The Ideal Candidate has:
Diploma in building related technology and/or Facilities Management Professional (FMP) certification; or Facilities Certified Manager(FCM) and
Minimum of five years’ related experience in facilities/property management at a supervisory level; and minimum of three years’ experience in building maintenance and construction project management or,
An equivalent combination of education and experience
A service orientation toward both internal and external customers
Experience in development, evaluation and costing of building maintenance requirements
Demonstrated knowledge of facility management information systems and facilities maintenance and building construction practices.
Experience developing and negotiating contracts for building maintenance
Ability to effectively organize, manage and monitor contractors and consultants involved in projects and maintenance functions
Demonstrated experience and skill in planning and managing a variety of facility related projects
Working knowledge of facilities and capital planning processes and budgeting
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong working knowledge and understanding of WorkSafe BC regulations and protocols
Must possess a valid BC driver’s license

This 35 hour/week position is within the bargaining unit (CUPE 410) with a salary range of $74,785 to $81,268 per annum and includes an attractive benefits package.
