Community Engagement Coordinator – ReForest London – London, Ontario

ReForest London is a non-profit organization dedicated to partnering with our community to enhance environmental and human health in the Forest City, through the benefits of trees.

Position Summary: The Community Engagement Coordinator brings ReForest London to our community and brings the community to ReForest London. This full-time position is focused on outreach and on broadening and deepening community engagement with ReForest London’s mission. The Coordinator manages our community outreach program (booths and other communications) and our volunteer management program. We rely heavily on both volunteers and the goodwill of Londoners. This position is key to that.

The ideal candidate is a “people” person who can engage people of different backgrounds and earn and retain their support of ReForest London’s mission. He/she is well organized, passionate about improving our environment and self-motivated to progress on his/her accountabilities.

Remuneration: This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week position, reporting to the Executive Director. Starting salary is $30,000/year with 2 weeks’ vacation. Some flex-time is possible.

Education and Experience

Four year liberal arts (or other) degree preferred. High school diploma required.
Volunteer experience (as a volunteer, and/or managing volunteers) required.
Experience in teaching, customer service, sales, outreach, etc. preferred.
Program management experience preferred.

Other requirements

Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Flexibility in working hours, including some evenings and weekends (especially in spring and fall)
Use of social media for professional purposes, preferred.
Knowledge of tree species, principles of ecology, preferred

Accountabilities

Enhance the organizational capacity of ReForest London through excellent volunteer attraction, training, engagement and recognition. For example:

Recruit both individual and group volunteers for new activities.
Communicate with volunteers regularly
Develop new training and opportunities to engage new and existing volunteers
Steward volunteers into new roles of greater responsibility and leadership
Maintain the database to track and communicate with volunteers.
Organize an annual volunteer recognition event

Increase community awareness and participation in ReForest London’s mission and London’s Million Tree Challenge through participating in community events, festivals and eco-fairs

Proactively identify and evaluate community opportunities
Work with volunteers to staff the booth as much as possible
Organize logistics of supplying free tree seedlings at appropriate events

Grow the base of individuals engaged with ReForest London and grow their level of engagement

Responsible for the ReForest London monthly e-newsletter
Ensure contacts made through all ReForest London programs are managed to provide opportunities to establish or deepen a relationship with the contact
Assist with thanking and tracking donors

Coordinate two large events

Celebration Forest ceremony
Western Fair seedling give-away

Managing Programs

Plan and ensure execution of outreach booths at community events and fairs.
Coordinate supply and give?away of tree seedlings at above events.
Ability to control processes and activities in results oriented manner
Ensures progress of project
Crafting and delivering messaging; Information and mission?related messaging crafted and consistently used in development and execution of programs

Managing an Event

Celebration Forest is an annual event usually attended by 300 people.
Ability to plan and execute the logistics of the event reception and speaking ceremony.

Evaluating and Managing Multiple Deadlines

Evaluating priority and return on investment. Time management.
Ability to work effectively with multiple priorities and deadlines.
