Chief Training Officer, Whitehorse Fire Department – City of Whitehorse – Whitehorse, YT

Under the general direction and guidance of the Fire Chief, safely implements and monitors a comprehensive Firefighter training program, ensuring personnel are trained to nationally recognized standards. Assists in the provision of public education and public safety training and provides a wide variety of administrative duties.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Grade 12 Diploma
NFPA 1001 Level 2 Professional Firefighter Certification (IFSAC or ProBoard accredited)
Level II Fire Service Instructor
NFPA 1021 (Fire Officer Professional Qualifications) – Level 1
Class 3 Driver’s license with Air Endorsement
Standard First Aid with CPR Level C, Oxygen Therapy, and AED
Proven ability to teach adult learners, demonstrated interpersonal skills, and advisory practices.
Demonstrated ability to construct training props and modify teaching techniques.
Previous experience – Minimum of five years’ experience as a Full-time Firefighter including supervisory or fire service instructing experience

Preferred Qualifications:

JIBC Evaluator Certificate
Certified Confined Space Instructor and Rope Rescue Instructor
Fire Investigation Level II
NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials – Operations or Technician Level
Experience working in a combination (career/volunteer) fire department environment

Required To Operate Equipment Such As:

All equipment operated by fire suppression staff; computer equipment with applications such as: Microsoft Office Suite, Fire Department Software, Audio-visual equipment, and other training aids and investigation equipment including cameras, and evidence collection and detection devices.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Salary Range ($47.24-$51.11/hour).
