Casual Aquatic Leader – City of Port Coquitlam – Port Coquitlam, BC

The City of Port Coquitlam is a rapidly growing urban municipality of over 57,000 residents, located in the northeast section of the Lower Mainland. Port Coquitlam Recreation is currently seeking enthusiastic, highly motivated, creative, fun and energetic individuals to join our team as Casual Aquatic Leaders. Aquatic Leaders not only use their skills but it’s an exciting job that promotes teamwork, develops communication skills, and encourages fitness and well-being.

As an Aquatic Leader, you will have the opportunity to provide a safe and enjoyable leisure experience and will be responsible for providing life guarding and instruction for a variety of aquatic programs at our facilities. Casual status requires flexibility in scheduling and the desire to work a variety of shifts, often on short notice, hours of work varies from 5:30am to 11:00pm.

To be considered, you are required to hold current certifications for:

NLS – Pool Option
Standard First Aid with CPR level C
Water Safety Instructor

In addition to the above certifications during the recruitment process you will be required to demonstrate that you are courteous and pleasant towards staff and guests using the facilities. You will be tested on your ability to remain alert, professional, use effective communication and leadership skills. If you are interested in sharpening your skills, knowledge and abilities, Hyde Creek is now offering an Aquatic Leader 101 course on Fridays starting January 15th until January 29th from 7:30-9:30pm. This course will provide potential candidates with the most up to date techniques used in lifeguarding, first aid, aquatic instruction, plus provide best practices used in the aquatic industry. Our goal is that potential candidates will gain a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of an Aquatic Leader, collect some tools to help make them a strong and successful candidate as they move forward in the field of Recreation.
