Outward Bound Canada (OBC) – a not for profit, charitable, educational organization – has launched a recruitment process for a National Admissions Manager. As a nonprofit educational organization, we sell courses to a variety of populations through traditional sales and unique partnerships. OBC also provides a large number of bursaries and/or scholarships that are made possible through the generous donations and sponsorship of individuals, corporations and foundations.

The National Admissions Manager (NMA) provides oversight for the entire admissions/recruitment process for Outward Bound Canada’s participants. Leading a team of two or more Admissions Coordinators, the Manager is responsible for the daily workflow and productivity of the Admissions office in order to meet enrolment goals. The NMA will play a vital role in coordinating the day-to-day admissions process and activity as well as general morale for the department. The NMA will be responsible for working with our Program, Marketing, and Development teams to maintain and grow enrolment in a focused way and for setting departmental goals and objectives aligned with overall strategy. The NMA will lead a small team to meet these goals and must be able to navigate these efforts within a lean, non-profit organization whose employees are motivated by mission and a passion for serving more Canadian youth and adults.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Daily management of the admissions coordinators to ensure timely and effective contact and communication with prospective students;
Meet participant enrolment goals by successfully managing all key aspects of the enrolment funnel and pipeline;
With the Program and Marketing teams, contribute to the planning and implementation of recruitment and outreach strategies designed to increase applications to OBC’s programs;
Provide feedback to the Marketing and Program teams to ensure steady lead flow;
Train, develop, coach and mentor Admissions Coordinators to ensure individual success and accountability;
Provide leadership in the development of a strategic enrolment management plan;
Monitor daily inquiry activity to ensure that prospective participant inquiries are contacted, reported, and tracked properly and alumni follow up and reporting is completed effectively;
Report weekly on admissions activity through relevant tracking systems and through reports to various committees, Executive Director and Board of Directors as required;
Promoting and managing interdepartmental relations to ensure a positive student/participant enrolment experience and effective and efficient communications between departments;
Oversee the management of bursary applications and bursary applicant screening and registration with the support of the Development team;
Maintain and update the central database as required;
Oversee the participant medical screening process and ensure that these systems are effective and efficient;
Actively participate on Program Planning, Marketing, and Bursary committees;
Oversee the maintenance of up-to-date and accurate student and applicant files for current and past years and contact lists of potential future participants and alumni

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

3 to 5 years’ experience working at a management level within a customer service environment; ideally related to experiential education, training and development, outdoor learning or similar;
Experience leading a team, with a demonstrable ability to motivate and encourage performance;
Admission experience strongly preferred in an enrolment/tuition dependent environment;
Experience working within a phone structure – virtual environment;
Ability to work a flexible schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS

Educated to post-secondary level degree or equivalent;
Effective communicator with excellent written, verbal and inter-personal skills;
Integrity and honesty inspiring confidence and openness amongst colleagues; skilled at building motivated teams committed to the vision and values of the organization;
Financially literate, with practical experience of using IT as an analytical and management tool and efficient in the use of Word, Excel and Power Point.
