The BC Water & Waste Association has an immediate, full-time opportunity for a Technical Communications Specialist. The Technical Communications Specialist is responsible for creating compelling, fact-based information products about the water sector in British Columbia, to support the Association’s advocacy and external communications efforts, inform content for training, conference and events, and position the BCWWA as the “go to” source of industry information for members, media and government. The Communications & Research Specialist works with the BCWWA’s CEO and staff, technical advisory committees, other subject matter experts, members, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Write compelling, evidence-based reports, white papers, issues analysis documents, and website content, tailored to communicate effectively with different audience groups and motivate action.
Gather and analyze data and information regarding the water sector in British Columbia. Develop and maintain current and timely research resources.
Monitor industry trends and emerging issues; work with technical subject matter experts to facilitate the exchange of knowledge about industry trends and emerging issues among water sector practitioners in BC.
Prepare persuasive yet balanced draft “issues analysis papers” and position statements, synthesizing technical input from various sources.
Manage special projects, including defining project objectives, scope, deliverables, milestones, and resource requirements. Identify project funding sources and draft funding proposals, including budgets.
Prepare information-based content to be included in marketing communications materials including print articles and website content.
Key Qualifications:
Bachelors’ degree in relevant discipline such as business, social or environmental sciences, communication or journalism.
3-5 years of relevant, non-academic work experience in a similar role.
Knowledge of the water and/or wastewater sector including research sources for the water sector preferred.
Exceptional writing skills; proven ability to research, draft, edit and publish fact-based information in a compelling way to a variety of audiences.
Excellent research and analytical skills; able to assess accuracy and relevance of data, pull together disparate facts and uncover the meaning behind the numbers.
Strong project management skills, highly organized and a demonstrated strong attention to detail.
Excellent facilitation skills, interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent time management and priority setting skills.
Brings a positive “can do” attitude and strives for excellence, comfortable with change and ambiguity.
Proficient with Microsoft Office; familiar with survey and data analysis tools.
