BC Transit is a provincial crown corporation and coordinates the delivery of safe, reliable, cost-efficient and market-focused transit services in British Columbia outside of the Greater Vancouver region. Working in partnership with local governments and private companies, BC Transit provides direct services in fleet acquisition and management, contract administration, transit planning, marketing and financial services.
This position is based in Victoria which is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Victoria (regional population 330,000) is the capital of British Columbia and a community of choice for many, due to our temperate climate, natural beauty and diverse economic opportunities. Victoria is an international resort destination with a transportation network that includes airport, helicopter and seaplane services, buses, ferry, and cruise ships.
Reporting to the Supervisor Service Management, the Systems Support Technician performs a variety of functions to support corporate users and manage the organization’s computer assets, including installing network hardware, participating in network administration, configuring and installing desktop systems, troubleshooting and resolving user desktop issues. The Systems Support Technician is the first line of contact between internal customers and the IT Department and therefore possesses superior customer service and communication skills.
Duties:
Provides front line support for the administration of the organization’s computer hardware and software assets;
Performing a variety of duties related to installation and maintenance of IT equipment such as workstations, telephones, mobile devices, servers, routers, switches, printers and cabling as assigned;
Liaising with co-workers and vendors to resolve issues as appropriate;
Participating in emergency and scheduled changes outside of normal working hours;
Acting as the point of contact for BC Transit users regarding technology issues and IT service requests, using incident management and request fulfilment processes in line with service desk objectives
Installing, maintaining and deploying BC Transit workstations and images (network and stand-alone); which includes; create and update all images, manage image related software, centrally distribute software and updates, fine-tune workstations, manage inventory of software and hardware
Building, configuring and installing desktop systems according to BC Transit guidelines;
Installing and configuring software as assigned;
Maintains audio-visual and business presentation equipment and demonstrates its use to staff.
Performs physical requirements related to computer systems, such as moving heavy items (e.g. monitors, printers and workstations);
Assists with disposal of obsolete hardware, by erasing data, maintaining inventory, and loading and delivering hardware to disposal;
May provide orientation, guidance and informal training to other employees;
Key participant in the creation of IT policies and procedures and maintenance of system documentation;
Other related duties as may be assigned from time to time;
This position will be required to work non-standard hours to implement changes and provide support.
Administration of a Mobility Device Management tool and a mobility environment
Administration of a Service Desk toolset
Administration of printers and a print enterprise tool
Skills & Experience:
Excellent understanding of how to efficiently build, maintain and support corporate IT environments;
1 – 3 years’ experience in supporting enterprise Windows environments;
Ability to classify and prioritize service requests using an IT ticket system
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows desktop infrastructure and imaging processes;
Experience with Windows software update services, deployment tools, and system management software
Fluency in Active Directory and group policy in a managed Windows desktop environment
Basic knowledge of network equipment including routers, switches, firewall and VPN appliances;
Familiarity with service issues with virtual machines and environments
An understanding of wired and wireless data networks and their associated protocols;
Administration of mobile technologies and associated devices;
Ability to identify and serve internal and external customers consistently, achieving a high level of customer satisfaction through assessing needs, establishing goals and resolving issues;
Ability to identify, monitor and proactively resolve network/server issues using centrally managed toolsets;
Must have high integrity and maintain confidentiality of data;
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within diverse teams;
Provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers;
Extremely strong prioritization and time management skills
Education:
Degree or diploma in Computer Systems or an IT related discipline from a recognized college or technical school or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
ITIL training would be an asset.
Professional Network Certifications MCITP, CCNA and MSCE would be an asset.
Possession of a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License.
