Social Media Specialist – Green Calgary – Calgary, Alberta

Based in Calgary and reporting to the Executive Director, you will be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation our social media strategy including writing content for newsletters and blogs, managing social media accounts and actively engaging supporters of our organization.

The ideal candidate is a creative self-starting social media enthusiast who knows their way around the major social media platforms and is never far away from their social device! You have demonstrated experience in building a following through great posting; have a strong understanding of the local environmental scene; and know how to implement a social media strategy across multiple platforms. This is a part time contract position requiring approximately 5-7 hours/week.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Social Media Specialist will assist with the following:

Implements Green Calgary’s social media engagement strategy that raises the profile of the organization in the local community and distributes content in a timely manner;
Manages Green Calgary’s Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn accounts;
Develops newsletter and blog content that is related and supports the goals and outreach of Green Calgary, its mission and programs (often based on popular topics and/or frequently asked questions, including content targeted at specific audiences);
Acts as an online media resource providing staff with current and emerging trends, opportunities, and best practices in order to collaborate on ways to enhance and/or improve the organization’s social media presence;
Tracks content creation/social media campaigns, opportunities and reviews and compiles social media statistics/reports to generate measurable outcomes of online activities;
Other duties as required related to social media engagement and online content for the organization.

The successful candidate MUST possess the following:

Minimum 2 years post secondary in communications, public relations or related field.
A creative communicator, with excellent writing and editing skills.
Demonstrated knowledge in best practices for designing effective, engaging, and persuasive content for social media specific to: Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
Experienced with use of google analytics and/or other analytics software.
A self starter with the ability to offer daily monitoring of and updating of Green Calgary’s social media and weekly online content with minimal direction/supervision.
Enthusiasm and passion for community with a focus urban environmental stewardship.
Flexible and highly organized with great attention to detail.

This is a part time contract position requiring approximately 5-7 hours/week with a contract fee of $400-450/month.
