Position: Site Supervisor – Carpenter
Accountable to: Manager Build Services, HFHNS & Halifax Chapter Build Committee
Description:
The Site Supervisor-Carpenter manages the on-site construction of single-family dwellings &/or duplex home construction, construction schedules and the timely integration of construction trades, material and workers. Meets Habitat for Humanity’s build guidelines and complies with all current national building codes, to deliver a defect-free home on time and within budget. Working through crew leaders and volunteers, the Site Supervisor-Carpenter, inspires, teaches and leads the build process.
Responsibilities:
Ensure that homes are built to requirements and specifications established by construction drawings, current building codes, and Habitat’s standards.
Communicates regularly with Habitat’s Manager Build Services to ensure construction design compliance.
Communicates with local building inspection department & utilities authority and coordinates all mandatory inspections.
Follows HFHNS’s COR Safety Program by acting as the on-site referral person for Crew Leaders & Volunteers.
Follows established build schedule, logs daily build task completion and coordinates build material requirements, using PO system, with direction from Manager Build Services.
Coordinates all sub-trade activity on site and any specific material management.
Presents build progress reports at weekly Build Committee meetings and effectively communicates with other staff members of HFHNS.
Qualifications:
Red Seal Certified Carpenter or minimum of 3 years’ experience in residential construction.
Able to perform and effectively communicate the step by step build process to crew leaders and skilled and unskilled volunteers.
Patience to explain and teach various build skills to inexperienced, motivated volunteers.
Strong communication, management, impact & influence and problem solving skills.
Flexible schedule. Build week is Tuesday – Saturday.
Maintains current Emergency First Aid, WHMIS, Fall Protection, Scaffold Inspection certification or be willing to complete these courses with expense covered by Habitat for Humanity.
Familiarity with current OHS Act & Regulations.
Interest and dedication to workplace injury prevention and loss control.
Interest or experience in team building and project management.
