The City of Nanaimo is seeking a Senior Technical Support Specialist – Network.

Staff in this position implement, support, and sustain the city’s core technical infrastructure.  Examples of areas of responsibility for the Technical Support work group include core networking, security, storage, virtualization, backups, messaging, telephony, directory services, CCTV and remote access, along with other related systems.

The ideal candidate will meet all requirements of the job description, possess a strong sense of curiosity, a dedication to continuous learning, be adaptable to the rapidly changing IT landscape, and looks forward to the challenge of building and maintaining complex mission-critical systems.

Applicants must have completed a two (2) year diploma in Applied Information Technology from an accredited technical institute and have a minimum of five (5) years experience designing, implementing and supporting core IT technical infrastructure (e.g. core networking, backups, remote access, virtualization, SAN, security, email/messaging, directory services) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Possession of a valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver’s Licence is required along with a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

This is a unionized position, $42.53 per hour – after Probation (Jan 2015 Rate), based on a 35‑hour work week.  A comprehensive benefit package is included.
