Position details
The program facilitator is primarily responsible for the creation, coordination and delivery of our education programs for the 2022 programming season (April-end of June, with possibility of extension to late September).
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
Designing suite of childrens’ education programs (0-18 + some family programming)
Coordinating and confirming program dates and times with partner organizations
Communicating with towing company to coordinate drop off and pick up of mobile greenhouse to and from programming locations
Delivery of programs to children and youth ages 0-18 in a variety of settings
Set up and take down of programs
Maintaining programming materials
Adhering to COVID safety protocols as outlined by CCS and partner organizations (this includes providing valid proof of COVID-19 vaccinations, if applicable)
Ongoing program adjustment and development
Gathering feedback from program partners and participants through surveys
Compiling statistical information on participant numbers, engagements etc.
Generate a weekly programming report to the board
Other duties as they arise
*Disclaimer: As this is our first year of programming with a newly built greenhouse, there are likely to be some hiccups and learning curves, so duties are subject to change throughout the season!*
Key deliverables:
Well-rounded suite of education programs for children, youth and families
Program schedule with minimum 3 programming engagements per week for the programming season (April-September)
Program feedback from participants compiled and integrated into programs throughout the season
Daily program stats during program delivery season
Weekly written summary reports on programming activities
Final programming report to be included with final report for granting committee (to be completed by the end of June)
Wage: This an independent contractor position, and work hours will vary throughout the different phases of the project, but the successful candidate can expect to spend 15-40 hours per week on the project. The successful candidate will be eligible to receive up to $12,700 in earnings between their start date and June 30th, 2022. Earnings will be received upon completion of key deliverables in a manner mutually agreed upon by CCS and the candidate.
The following amounts will be paid for the completion of each project component:
Program Creation: up to $6500
Program Coordination/Delivery: up to $6200
Duration: Immediately-June 30th
Qualifications:
Previous experience in education program development, coordination and delivery
Previous experience working with children and youth
Previous experience working with volunteers
Adaptable to changing circumstances
Strong communicator
Energetic and enthusiastic
Strong organizational skills
Friendly, approachable
Some background knowledge in gardening/food growing is preferred
Must have a valid drivers’ license and reliable source of transportation to drive to programming locations (a vehicle will not be provided)
Must have access to a reliable electronic device (laptop, tablet, smartphone) for communication purposes and reporting
Must be willing to obtain vulnerable sector check.
First Aid Training is an asset
Post-secondary studies in education, horticulture/agriculture, environmental science is an asset, but not required
The ideal candidate is:
Flexible and willing to adapt in order to suit the needs of the programming audience and partners – comfortable with “winging it” and experimenting with new ideas
A good listener
A natural storyteller, creative, and attentive to the audience.
Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, and making executive decisions surrounding when to call off the program, based on guidelines set (due to inclement weather etc)
Able to work independently
Able to interact with children of all ages and backgrounds, prioritizing safety and inclusivity
