Program Coordinator – Windfall Ecology Centre – Aurora, York Region / GTA, Ontario

Windfall Centre offers a dynamic and flexible work environment. The Centre is situated on 63 acres of hardwood forest adjacent to the Aurora Go Transit station.

Full-time Internship: occasional evening and weekend work.
Duration: 2 year contract (with potential for extension)
Salary: $40,000/year
Location: Aurora, Ontario (1 vacancy)

Reporting to a senior manager, the program coordinator will be responsible for developing, coordinating, facilitating, monitoring and evaluating Aurora’s Healthy Kids Community Challenge program. The program focuses on providing education on healthy lifestyles, eating and increasing physical fitness levels of children and families in Aurora. Specific program components include: promotion & provision of healthy nutrition; physical activity and lifelong healthy lifestyles.

Community Relations
The program coordinator performs various basic tasks surrounding the Healthy Kids Community Challenge such as answering general inquiries, networking with partners, project planning and reporting, facilitating meetings, making presentations, maintaining a database and providing program and administration support as required.

Event Planning
Under the direction of the management team, the program coordinator plans and coordinates media and community events, informational/steering committee meetings and online communications.

Client Services
As part of the client services team, the program coordinator will answer general inquiries via phone and e-mail, schedule appointments and meetings, communicate and provide regular written and oral updates for steering committee and staff and other duties as required.

Education
Environmental sciences, community development, sports & recreation and/or nutrition; with a preference given to specialized training in the area of child/youth services. Related work experience, education and training will also be considered.

Required Skills
Highly motivated and actively engaged in a healthy lifestyle; with knowledge in the areas of nutrition, active living, and benefits of living substance and smoke free
Ability to be a positive role model for clients and participants
Effective written and oral communication skills
Strong organizational skills and strict attention to detail
Experience in program planning, coordination, facilitation, data collection and evaluation for Child & Youth target group
Proficient computer skills: experience with database management, professional e-mail techniques, Open Office, Microsoft Office and web research
Preparation of quarterly reports, which will be signed off by municipal partner
Understanding of online communication and social media
Knowledge of the Town of Aurora, York Region and the various programs provided to the community
The ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment
Ability to meet deadlines and perform tasks with minimal supervision
Demonstrate initiative and commitment to achieving professional information management standards
Commitment to environmental values
