Description:
Reporting to the Acting Executive Director this position’s primary responsibility is to develop a national framework to collect organic data (price, quantity, production, etc.) that can be used for both research purposes and for use by new, transitioning and established farmers.
One of the main focus of this position will be to manage and develop the Organic Price Tracker database (http://www.organicpricetracker.ca). The database is a tool that makes organic data available and has been identified as critical for supporting organic farmers with their farm management planning and decisions.
Key responsibilities include:
Identify and assess reasons for gaps in organic agriculture data collection
Assist in developing a national strategy for addressing these gaps
Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships and serve as a liaison for the project between COG and key stakeholders
Develop standardized processes to collect and analyze data from a variety of sources
Extract, manipulate, analyze, and report data; manage data; prepare and maintain data files; verify data to ensure data integrity
Maintain and update data definitions and databases
Assist with project management and program delivery
Coordinate volunteers
Assist with the management of COG’s internal operating systems including COG’s database, website, and IT systems
Assist with COG’s daily operations
Essential Qualifications:
Knowledge of data gathering methodology and data input and analysis
Excellent strategic and logical thinking
Ability to work independently in solving problems
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Project development or management experience
Good team player
Good communicator (written and verbal)
Experience and knowledge of organic agriculture
Experience working with databases or client management software
Experience working with web software
Experience working with volunteers
Asset Qualifications:
Experience working with software such as Raiser’s Edge, Simply Accounting, Adobe Creative Suite
Experience working in non-profits and small organizations
Programming skills and experience with HTML, PHP or CSS
Experience working with WordPress
Experience coordinating volunteers
Bilingualism (written and spoken fluency in French)
You must be a reliable self-starter with a positive attitude and the ability to take initiative, and pursue new opportunities for the organization.
Terms:
The successful candidate will be expected to work 37.5hrs/wk. Occasional evenings and weekends will be required.
This project is funded in part by Career Focus, an Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada program, and is funded until June 15, 2016. The following applicant criteria must be met:
be between the ages of 15 and 30;
be unemployed or under-employed;
have graduated in the last three calendar years from:
an agriculture-related program in a university, college or CEGEP;
or a provincial program focusing on biology, chemistry, environmental science, geographical science, agricultural and veterinary science or applied technology; and
be a Canadian citizen or have landed immigrant status.
