Occurrence / Information Officer – RCMP – City of Penticton – Penticton, BC

The City of Penticton has a vacancy for an Occurrence/Information Officer to work at the Penticton RCMP Detachment.  The Occurrence/Information Officer is responsible for Detachment reception and switchboard.  Duties include direct assistance to the public for complaint taking, interpretation and explanation of rules, regulations and processes, conducting Police Information Checks, electronic fingerprinting and receipt of found property and evidence.

The successful candidate will have completed secondary school and have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a Canadian police force as a Peace Officer, or a related component of the Canadian Judicial System or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The successful candidate must have the necessary experience in:

CPIC, PIRS and PRIME BC
Criminal Code of Canada, federal statutes,  provincial acts and regulations and municipal bylaws
National Firearms Manual and related sections of the Criminal Code of Canada (identification, acquisition, possession, use and control of firearms)
electronic fingerprinting, receiving statements, securing evidence, court procedures and the rules of evidence
disclosure rules
motor vehicle accident investigation procedures
community-based policing and priority response
various RCMP reference manuals including Operational, Administration, Informatics, CPIC and PRIME BC

The successful candidate will have the ability to accurately and expediently assess the urgency and priority of a reported incident and make the appropriate response; work with minimal supervision and to remain calm under duress and deal courteously and diplomatically with the public; and obtain and maintain an RCMP security clearance to an “enhanced reliability” level.

Accurate keyboarding at a minimum rate of 40 wpm is required, as is effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.  Ability to communicate in French and certification in first aid with CPR are assets.

The wage for this union position is $23.94 – $26.60 per hour (pay grade 060) per hour.
