IISD is looking for an outgoing, motivated and highly-organized individual to lead its web-based outreach and influence. The Lead Information Architect will be responsible for developing and maintaining a cutting-edge presence online.
The successful candidate will combine strong project management skills with a high degree of computer and software literacy and communication skills. This position requires a deep understanding of web development and maintenance, UX design and information architecture. Experience working with non-governmental organizations, think tanks, or other research intensive organizations is an asset. Working to increase traffic and brand visibility, the Lead Information Architect will play a crucial role in IISD’s engagement strategy.
The Lead Information Architect will report to IISD’s Director of Communications, and will be supported by a team of communications specialists, both employees and freelancers, including: Communications Officer; Software Developer; Freelance Editors; Publications Coordinator; and Graphic Designers.
This is a one year, full-time position. The position is based in Canada, preferably in Winnipeg, but other cities could be considered. Depending on the locale, the nature of engagement, either employee or consultant, will be defined as appropriate.
Duties
Lead in the development and refinement of IISD’s websites, providing direction and guidance to internal and external designers and programmers
Serve as the principal adviser for the development of new web pages and/or overhauls of existing pages. Assist with the administration of macro site redesign initiatives including architecture and navigation.
Work collaboratively with the Communications team to build web marketing, video and social media strategies
Provide assistance on web server management
Collaborate in the development, implementation and evaluation of communications and marketing strategies, policies and procedures
Support and protect IISD brand(s) by ensuring positive and relevant messaging is maintained in communications outputs
Explore creative new media techniques and keep informed of evolving web trends and technologies. Recommend appropriate action for IISD.
Requirements: 2-5 years’ experience in the following:
Expert in Web Content Management Systems (WordPress and Drupal) including template development
Demonstrated ability to execute on information architecture of complex taxonomies, metadata frameworks, and templates for content management systems
Knowledge of HTML and CSS. Extensive knowledge of PHP is not mandatory, but a definite asset.
Possesses basic server administration skills
Familiarity with the Adobe CS suite; in particular, Photoshop and Illustrator
Knowledge of UX design
Familiarity and experience with web-based social media tools, including: Twitter, Facebook and Podio
Writing and editing skills will be a strong asset
