HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week SALARY: $83,819 – $99,013 annually
The New Westminster Police Department is seeking an experienced individual who will be responsible for providing IT and supervisory work in the administration and maintenance of desktop, server, network and communication systems for the department. The successful incumbent will be responsible for coordinating technology implementations and projects; ensuring the functionality and effectiveness of the department’s systems; analyzing information requirements and technological needs; performing research and analysis of new products, technologies and services and developing related tactical plans and operating and capital budgets; and supervising the work the of the IT division.
Requirements include:
University degree or diploma in computer sciences plus considerable related experience including some supervisory and project management experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Thorough knowledge of the characteristics and capabilities of the department’s computer system, components and related software.
Thorough knowledge of trends and developments in computer and communications technologies as related to the work performed.
Considerable knowledge of departmental policies, procedures and practices related to the work performed.
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of project management and systems implementation.
Considerable knowledge of communications network and operating practices and procedures, problem definition and solution techniques related to the work performed.
Sound knowledge of the functions of the Police Department and their information and computer requirements as applied to the work performed.
Ability to plan, assign, review and supervise the work of a small group of technical subordinates and to build teamwork and guide staff in resolving issues.
Ability to act as project manager for the development, enhancement and implementation of computer infrastructure and related applications.
Ability to troubleshoot systems problems and to coordinate problem resolution by others.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and to provide excellent customer care, advice, information and assistance to the same.
Ability to research, recommend and prepare policies, guidelines and procedures for effective use of computer systems.
Ability to monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of computer networks and related components, identify and investigate problems and implement remedial actions as required.
Ability to prepare capital and operating budget estimates and administer approved budgets to ensure cost control and effective utilization of resources.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to prioritize workload and to maintain systems technology availability and growth in synchronization with the department’s and City’s requirements.
Skill in the operation of equipment used in the work.
Valid BC Driver’s License.
The successful candidate must be able to pass and maintain a clear police background check, including polygraph.
