An opportunity exists for a Graphic Designer in our Design Department for a one year term. Based in our modern head office building in Halifax, you’ll have access to ample parking, the latest ergonomic systems and will enjoy perks like casual Fridays.

Working in a structured team environment, you will be responsible for the creative development and camera-ready versions of new and ongoing design projects.   Reporting to the Design Team Lead, you will work primarily on design needs of the newspaper and digital creative. You will also assist other departments on design projects such as branding, marketing and magazine layout, as needed. If you’re a self-starter with a positive attitude and the ability to maintain professionalism in all interactions, then this opportunity might be a good fit for you!

Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

Ad production and/or page layout for various publications;
Produce high-quality designs, graphics, mock-ups and layouts for new and existing online applications including: advertising, websites,  email,  tablets, and mobile;
Create original graphics, branding and logos in conjunction with advertising campaigns and corporate promotions both internally and for external clients;
Provide effective and accurate execution of design elements for layout while working to daily deadlines and meeting advertiser expectations;
Select and prepare appropriate, quality materials (photos, illustrations, etc) to be used for various design products;
Work in partnership with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure a high level of service; and,
Provide assistance on projects, using a cohesive team approach to solve design challenges.

The minimum qualifications for success in this position are:

Completion of relevant post-secondary graphic design education;
Minimum three years’ experience in a graphic design position;
Demonstrated creative solutions for large clientele base;
Computer literate, in particular an enhanced knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite;
Comfortable working on both Mac & PC platforms;
Strong communication skills;
Organized with high level of attention to detail;
Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced team environment;
Flexible and willing to work varying shifts;
Knowledge of Flash, HTML and CSS, an asset; and,
Leadership qualities, experience with magazine production, and project management experience an asset.
