Summary of Responsibilities:
The Petawawa Military Family Resource Centre (PMFRC) requires a Family Liaison Officer working in partnership with the Canadian Forces Integrated Personnel Support Centre (IPSC). This position is an integral part of the PMFRC in providing standardized, consistent care, service, and support to Canadian Forces families coping with an illness, injury, death and/or special needs.
This position reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for the development, implementation & delivery of support services/programs including initial and continued contact with military families, assessment and referral; short term individual, couple and family counselling and/or crisis intervention; ongoing clinical therapy if deemed necessary, group work; program development, networking with community resources/teams.
Requirements:
Essential Qualifications
Masters of Social Work, Bachelor of Social Work, or equivalent degree with direct counseling/clinical therapy experience working with individuals and families coping with trauma.
Extensive experience working with individuals, families, small groups with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in counselling / clinical therapy, crisis management, family education / support, trauma, and trauma assessments.
Possess a wide range of theoretical and practical knowledge encompassing program design, development and implementation, facilitation, coordination / evaluation, group dynamics, crisis intervention, family violence, abuse, and attachment theory / separation issues
Strong oral and written communication skills in English; French an asset.
Thorough understanding of Canadian Forces communities, systems and policies to effectively assist families in accessing appropriate services and supports.
In-depth knowledge of civilian, provincial agencies and other organizations that can provide support to the military families.
Experience and knowledge with crisis intervention and family violence, with the ability to establish priorities and evaluate risk to self and others
Exhibit characteristics of warmth, empathy, humour, and a non-judgmental philosophy of care and strong understanding and application of ethical principles.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within both an inter-disciplinary team and in a self-directed environment.
Registered social worker (or equivalent professional registration)
Special Requirements
Willingness to work flexible hours. (Flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the families we serve).
Ability to ensure effective overall administration practices, present information and respond to questions from supervisors, staff and the general public
Ability to prepare written reports, correspondence and maintain accurate records
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
Proficiency in MS Office and navigating the Internet is required.
Terms:
Full time position, 37.5 per week
Current Police Records Check required (within 6 months)
Valid driver’s license required
Salary range: $25.87/hr (BSW) $31.93/hr (MSW)
