The OETN mobilizes pro bono talent to achieve a sustainable Ottawa by linking environmental expertise and knowledge with the project needs of local not-for-profit groups
Salary: $55,000

Role:
The Executive Director (ED) will be a pivotal player for ensuring the growth and success of this new organization. Critical roles are to inform and attract a diverse range of not-for-profit clients to the services of the OETN, expand the network of advisors, facilitate matching advisors with client projects, help develop and implement a plan for longer-term financial sustainability, and carry out administrative functions of organization. The ED will be the first employee of the OETN. It is not anticipated that there will be other employees, at least in the initial years of operation, and the responsibilities will, therefore, be varied and broad. The ED must relish the responsibilities and the opportunities to help build an organization from the ground up and be dynamic, independent, innovative and entrepreneurial.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership
Lead the marketing to attract environmental projects, network these projects with the Advisors, and manage the overall process to promote a successful outcome
Participate with the Board of Directors in further development of a vision, and strategic plan and help implement a dynamic, responsive OETN
Act as a spokesperson for the organization
Represent the organization at community activities to enhance the organization’s community profile
Operational management
Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization
Develop an operational plan that will include outreach, evaluation, sustainability and fundraising which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the organization
Ensure that the operation of the organization meets the expectations of its clients, Board and funders
Program management
Lead the planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting of the organization’s programs and services
Ensure that the services offered by the organization contribute to the organization’s mission and reflect the priorities of the Board
Monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the organization
Financial management
Lead fundraising activities
Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and report monthly
Work with staff and the Board (Finance Committee) to prepare a comprehensive budget
Community networking
Lead the development of more formal working relationships/agreements with post-secondary institutions
Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization
As website manager carry out this and other social media/communications functions
Qualifications
Education
University/college degree in a related field
Knowledge, skills, experience and abilities
Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to not-for-profit/ voluntary organizations
Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization
Knowledge and experience in financial management
Knowledge and experience in organizational development and project management
Have interest, skills, and abilities to work with people of all ages be they Board members, Advisors, lead contacts of projects, and community collaborators.
Ability to work independently yet collaborate with volunteer Board and other volunteers
Bilingualism and several years’ experience with a not-for-profit /voluntary organization would be an asset.
