Hours: 4 days/week including some evenings and weekends
OVERVIEW
The Executive Director:
is a public face of the Halton Environmental Network (HEN), which “supports and enhances the capacity of its member groups and facilitates communication, cooperation, and action”
develops and implements strategic and fundraising plans in conjunction with Board committees
leads all aspects of HEN’s day-to-day operations
reports to and works in partnership with the Board of Directors, through the Chair
carries out the strategic plan approved by the HEN Board and membership
manages paid staff and volunteers
has access to a reliable vehicle and ability to travel through Halton region, as required
has strong computer skills with proficiency with MS Office Suite including Word, Powerpoint, and Excel
has demonstrated experience in networking and maintaining relationships with members and stakeholders
Accountable to the Board of Directors, HEN’s ideal candidate is a visionary who is enthusiastic about the environment, specifically in the Halton Region. HEN’s Executive Director should strive to ensure that HEN maintains a leadership position in the environmental field in Halton Region to enhance the visibility of HEN with critical stakeholders. We are looking for a self-starter and faster learner with proven leadership abilities and multitasking capabilities.
TERM
Position is a 6 month contract that is renewable
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Governance
Works with Board Chair to set agenda for monthly Board meetings & Annual General Meeting
Requests Board input & approval on items as defined in the organization’s governance structure
Supports all Board subcommittees
Fundraising and Community Relations
Directs and develops strategic and fundraising plans
Develops and maintains relationships with members, funders, and potential partners
Administration
Manages and engages paid staff and volunteers, including hiring, training, and evaluation; recommending staffing and volunteer plan to the Board
Finance: supports audit and annual budget approval
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 2 years’ managerial experience in the non-profit sector
Extensive experience and/or knowledge of strategic planning and fundraising
Strong non-profit-related project management skills
Excellent written and oral communications skills
Broad interest in the environment
Excellent interpersonal skills
