Events / Operations Manager – Sustainable Kingston – Kingston, Ontario

SUMMARY

Green Economy Kingston (GEK) is Sustainable Kingston’s new target-based sustainability program for businesses. Participating member organizations are plugged-in to a local network, supported in setting a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction target and celebrated for progress made towards economic and environmental results.

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

The GEK Events & Operations Manager guides the efficient operation of all GEK-related processes & activities, and leads the GEK events team in the planning, management and successful delivery of all GEK events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

GEK event management

Plans, manages and delivers eight core GEK events throughout each year (Educational Forums, quarterly Technical Workshops, and the annual Evening of Recognition), as well as additional events determined by ongoing partnerships, including key elements such as: event topic content, speakers, marketing (with GEK members & external community), environmental impact, financial planning/ reporting
Plans, manages and executes the GEK event sponsorship strategy in semi-annual outreach campaigns, with support from the public relations functional area

Special event management

Plans and coordinates all aspects of the special event calendar, including the annual gala
Plans and manages all media sponsors and all special event sponsorship
Supports the organization’s presence at various community events, in conjunction with the marketing functional area

Operations management

Plans, optimizes and supports all GEK processes and activities, ensuring all are as efficient as possible and with a view towards continual improvement. For example: GEK new member onboarding; GEK member conversion (Observing Organization to Pledging Partner); GEK member renewal
Oversees and supports coordination related to the year-end report (i.e. logo approvals)
Oversees and supports volunteers in Event Coordination and Marketing roles
Supports the creation and organization of various standardized GEK resources, as needed

Strategic planning

Works with the GEK Program Manager and Sustainable Kingston Executive Director to advance the strategic direction of GEK

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications & experience

University degree / Diploma in related field
Ability to facilitate consensus based decisions
Passion for collaborating with others, and both building & maintaining relationships across multiple sectors
Passion for environmental issues, for community-based leadership, and for improving the environmental sustainability of Kingston
Experience with corporate event-planning
Experience in the not-for-profit sector, including managing budgets and volunteers
Experience with troubleshooting/help desk roles
Experience with administrative support in an office environment
Experience with the MS Office Suite, with particular depth of knowledge & ability with MS Excel

Knowledge of GHG accounting standards and protocols an asset
Knowledge of current government policy and current issues surrounding GHG policy development an asset

COMPENSATION

SALARY RANGE: $24,000 – $29,250

POSITION TYPE: Contract, One (1) year, part-time (25 hours per week)
