Emergency Social Services Assistant
This specialized role is responsible is responsible for coordinating the Emergency Social Services program for the City of Coquitlam for the City of Coquitlam. In conjunction with the Emergency Social Services (ESS) Director, the incumbent activates the ESS Branch and Personal Disaster Assistance; develops ESS reception centre activation and demobilization plans; drafts and implements work plans for training and exercises; recruits and orients volunteers, develops training materials and provides training; establishes and maintains liaison with various external authorities. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment and action within the framework of established rules, regulations and policies, referring unusual or policy matters to a superior who reviews work performance in terms of conformance to established policies and procedures and effectiveness of support services.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with experience in a leadership role in a municipal Social Services Program and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the policies, practices and procedures governing same. Other requirements include: sound knowledge of the methods and practices for conducting volunteer training; Working knowledge of the Provincial Emergency Program and of the Provincial Emergency Act and associated rules and regulations governing the work performed; demonstrated ability to develop ESS reception centre activation and demobilization plans and to draft and implement work plans for training and exercises; ability to conduct training and public information sessions; ability to liaise with and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts; ability to make decisions in accordance with the applicable regulations, policies, and procedures, to set priorities and to perform duties under minimal supervision.
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in emergency management, plus sound related experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience; Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia.
