Position Summary
CPAWS-BC is seeking to fill the new role of Digital Engagement Coordinator. This full-time contract position will work on the Communications and Development team. In this role, you will work closely with the entire staff, including our Ocean and Terrestrial Conservation teams, to build stronger connections with corporate and community partners, and supporters across the province.
We are looking for a person who believes in the power of collaboration and community building, and who is eager to learn more about how protecting nature provides a better, safer future for all of us. You don’t have to have experience working in conservation, but you should be enthusiastic about relationship building and willing to explore and utilize a variety of digital engagement tools.
To successfully fill this role, you will use your knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm to build stronger connections with current community and corporate partners, and seek out new ones. You will identify gaps in our current base of support, and strive to fill them. This could include organizing and attending virtual events and presentations, assisting with conference and symposium planning, tracking relationships and following up on opportunities, and reaching out to groups who don’t know about CPAWS-BC to share our vision and stories of our work. You will develop and strengthen digital engagement opportunities, and make sure that we are talking to the right people at the right time – virtually, of course.
Primary Responsibilities
Your primary role will be to support the Communications and Campaign Teams in creating and delivering virtual events, and growing our supporter list through digital engagement. From promoting events and managing supporter lists, to engaging with community groups such as recreationists and nature-lovers, to hosting events with corporate partners across Metro Vancouver, you will be connecting with people across the province and sharing stories about our work. We know that we are missing opportunities to create partnerships and raise awareness about CPAWS-BC and our campaigns, and we want you to help!
We need you to think strategically about how to effectively showcase our campaigns and connect with communities in a digital space. Sometimes it might be as simple as promoting a campaign event to our current network and asking them to take action to protect nature. But it might also involve identifying unlikely allies, creating opportunities for supporters to share with their networks, connecting with scientists and other experts, or finding businesses to partner with us to defend lands and waters.
You will generate content for a variety of digital media streams, so if you are creative and passionate about telling stories, this will be your time to shine. If you’ve got experience using a variety of social media tools and engagement platforms, we can’t wait to learn from you.
Of course, we need to know that what we are doing is effective, so monitoring and evaluation are important in every role at CPAWS-BC. Everything we do should be based on clear strategies, have solid deliverables, and have a way to measure success. That doesn’t mean that we don’t experience failure — we all do, and you will too! It does mean that we report back on our successes, explore our failures as opportunities for growth, and continually chart a path forward to improve our effectiveness.
Specific Skills
We are looking for someone with as many of the following skills, qualifications, or equivalent experiences as possible. We do not expect anyone to have them all, and encourage you to apply if this sounds like you who you aspire to be:
Committed to working through a lens of reconciliation, honouring Indigenous rights and title, and upholding the principles of UNDRIP
Ability to work effectively on diverse teams and with a wide range of people
Time and task management skills such as creating and sticking to project timelines, especially when working with or leading a team of people
Excellent organizational skills that help you track a variety of information and then use it to make decisions
Digital communication skills, including confidence and comfort creating social media content on a variety of platforms
Strong writing ability and an interest in storytelling
Well-developed interpersonal skills that can help you build rapport not only with colleagues, but also with community groups, corporate partners and volunteers
Patience to push through challenging tasks with persistence, knowing that a positive outcome is on the horizon
The ability to work from home for now, as the CPAWS-BC office is open under limited capacity during the pandemic, and on occasional evenings and weekends when required for events (note: non-standard working hours happen around once a month)
It would also be helpful if you have any of the following skills, though they are by no means required:
An artistic flair, which might include digital design, web design, videography, photo and video editing, illustrations and more
Fluency or working knowledge in languages other than English
Technical writing skills that support writing funding applications and reports
