Digital and Multimedia Communications Coordinator – Invasive Species Centre

Job Summary
The candidate will apply strategic priorities to digital and multimedia communications tactics, providing valuable knowledge of priority invasive species issues and the work of the ISC to key audiences in creative, easily understood formats. Objectives will be to engage key audiences to help fuel ISC’s vision and mission, facilitate evidence-based information sharing and information transfer about the issue of invasive species, and amplify positive awareness of ISC, its mandate and achievements.
The successful Communications Coordinator candidate is a quality-focused, collegial individual with solid communications planning, writing, and editorial skills. The candidate will be a strategic thinker who is well informed on digital and traditional media tactics and how to apply them to the Invasive Species Centre’s communications strategy. The candidate will be well-versed in current science communication, environmental communications, and social marketing trends and adept at translating technical, scientific information into plain language formats.

Principal Accountabilities
Research, plan, edit, implement and evaluate communication strategies, programs, campaigns, and messaging for educational, publicity and information purposes
Generate plain language and technical content for annual report, newsletters, social media, briefs, speeches, presentations, website, media releases, media response, exhibits/displays, infographics, videos, webinars, factsheets, species profiles, FAQs, best management practices, etc.
Lead ongoing development and implementation of the organizational editorial calendar
Field and respond to or support response of written and oral inquiries, including media enquiries
Conduct editorial review of deliverables and external communications
Implement social media plans and support social media accounts with content
Monitor and evaluate plans and activities by using predefined performance indicators
Stay current on best practices for communications professionals especially for science and environmental communications and support team by bringing new information and innovations to the ISC’s work
Further the reach of the Invasive Species Centre and identify opportunities to build stakeholder relationships
Take photos and shoot video to support production of graphic and video content
Support the development and organization of workshops, meetings, ceremonies and other events for information purposes and support outreach and education at events and attend stakeholder and partner events, as needed
Occasional travel may be required, post-pandemic

Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree in marketing, communications, public relations or science/environmental communication and have a minimum 2 years job experience in marketing, communications, or public relations.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional educational credentials and/or experience in natural or environmental sciences
Media engagement experience

Other Requirements
Experience on WordPress and Adobe Creative applications would be an asset
Bilingual in French, English and or Indigenous languages would be an asset
The candidate must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations.
