The Opportunity
Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), the leader in wetland conservation, is looking for a confident, energetic and dedicated professional to join our team. As a Conservation Programs Specialist, you will provide support to help grow DUC’s capabilities to serve its clients who require wetland restoration services.
In this position, you will communicate directly with clients, DUC Conservation Delivery staff and Government staff who manage wetland conservation policies in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Working within a strong team environment, you will also take on responsibilities for managing clients, tracking client contracts, tracking project budgets, generating project reports, follow-up with clients and regulatory agencies as required through the wetland compensation process in NB and NS.
You need to be an enthusiastic team player and passionate about the outdoors – a self-starter who can work with anyone, and is capable of working under minimal supervision.
You are independent, resourceful and possess strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills and can manage numerous projects on tight deadlines.
Your strong communication and negotiation skills enable you to deal effectively with various stakeholders.
You are a persuasive, goal-oriented individual. Your personal and professional experience and directly related knowledge make you the ideal candidate for this position.
Requirements
Post-secondary degree/diploma in biology, ecology, forestry, or resource management
Knowledge of business principles or contract management is an asset
Knowledge of wetland systems, wetland identification, GIS, and bilingualism are considered assets.
Strong communication skills which can be applied to advance DUC’s mission.
Able to take initiative; must work well in a team setting and also independently with minimum supervision.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation capable of accessing rural/forestry roads.
A personal commitment and passion for waterfowl and wetland conservation make you the ideal candidate for this position.
Solid understanding of Microsoft Excel
Capable of working and communicating with diverse groups of people in dynamic settings
Strong data management skills, experience in developing and managing contracts
Strong oral/written communication and presentation skills
Ability to work independently and in a team setting
Good time management skills
Ability to work on multiple projects, set priorities, and meet rigid deadlines
A valid Canadian driver’s license is required
