Position
The Communications Coordinator is a support role, intended to manage and coordinate the diverse communications and media operations of the Vancouver Pride Society, the non-profit organization that produces the annual Pride Parade and Festivals. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Creating a Communications Plan with relevant internal stakeholders.
Developing, or coordinating the development of, key communications such as social media, website, press releases, and media speaking points.
Coordinating a Communications Working Group including staff members, board members and key volunteers.
Coordinating interviews and media appearance schedules for VPS spokespersons.
Managing media accreditation for special access to events.
Managing the graphic design process and coordinating with internal stakeholders.
Managing the deployment of pageantry and assets in branding event sites.
Managing the VPS’s communication budget which includes in-kind and cash contributions.
Performing other operational and administrative duties as required.
While the successful applicant is expected to be self-motivated and independent, the VPS operates as a cohesive team and the successful applicant will be expected actively share information and collaborate with team members as necessary.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a strong background in communications, media, project management, and/or event planning. This position is well suited for someone with, or in the pursuit, a professional communications or business designation.
Organization
The Vancouver Pride Society is the organizing body behind the annual Vancouver Pride Parade and Festival as well as approximately twenty events throughout the summer months. The Vancouver Pride Society is a non-profit organization that brings together members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Two-Spirited and Queer (LGBTTQ) community, their friends, allies and supporters in celebration of the unique spirit and culture of our community by producing quality, inclusive and safe events to celebrate. The VPS strengthens the sense of community and contributes to the vibrancy, health and overall well-being of persons in the LGBTTQ communities.
Compensation
The Vancouver Pride Society offers a competitive health, dental, and wellness benefits package in addition to a mutually agreed upon hourly wage. The applicant is expected to provide a desired range for compensation in the cover letter submitted.
This position is 40 hours per week and requires a candidate with a flexible schedule. The successful applicant will be required to have flexible hours to accommodate meetings on evenings and weekends to ensure volunteers are available.
