The City of Coquitlam is currently seeking a Communications Coordinator 2 to work within the Corporate Communications Division. This position will commence working auxiliary hours and will lead into a temporary full-time maternity leave coverage in December 2015.  Using a considerable degree of independent judgment, you will:

provide advice to managers and staff
develop and implement communications plans
coordinate the design, production and dissemination of promotional materials
create advertising and media messages
research, write and edit a variety of materials
establish editorial guidelines
collaborate with other staff engaged in communication activities
establish effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.

Our ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of the principles, objectives, methods and techniques of communications work relevant to municipal operations. Applicants should also have  recent experience and proven results in issues management, media relations, and social media engagement as well as strong writing skills. Sound knowledge of the technical aspects of  graphic arts, photography, print production, website maintenance, and print and online advertising are also required. This will be demonstrated through an ability to develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate communications plans, programs, and activities, provide technical advice and guidance on the methods and materials used in developing communications strategies, as well as coordinate the design, production and dissemination of marketing publications and media messages. Experience should also include administering related contracts, developing and implementing concepts and themes, and researching, writing, producing and disseminating a variety of promotional, informational and publicity material while overseeing the work of other staff and consultants engaged these communication activities.

Along with possessing a relevant post-secondary education in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations or other related discipline, you also have a minimum of 5 years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
