The Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) has been supporting responsible agriculture at the grassroots for the last several decades through education programs, stewardship opportunities and local farm clubs. We are now seeking a dynamic individual to help enhance our approach to education and outreach. We are offering a full-time junior to – intermediate position based in the OSCIA office for an individual who is passionate about a vibrant agricultural sector, the environment, and communications. The Communication Specialist will take direction from the Environmental Programs Manager to promote education and incentive opportunities available to agricultural producers as well as successes achieved by local farmers.
Duties:
Develop creative communications materials for environmental programs using Indesign
Carry out promotional strategies to support programs delivered by OSCIA
Facilitate outreach and follow-up with program participants through the development of surveys and questionnaires to fulfill reporting requirements
Create and curate content for social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter
Tracking activities (as required) related to agricultural applied research projects, and preparing reports.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Strong understanding of agricultural Best Management Practices and experience working with the farming sector;
Interest in communicating complex technical messages in creative and meaningful ways ? through clear language;
Work independently while maintaining tight deadlines and holding accountability for projects;
Keen creative abilities demonstrated through previous work;
Self-starter, energetic, with a positive attitude;
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment;
Excellent verbal and written communications skills;
Completion of a university degree in a related field;
One to five years experience in a related field;
French language skills considered an asset;
Valid Driver’s License.
