The Halifax Partnership is Halifax’s economic development organization whose main goal is to attract, keep, and grow business, talent and investment in Halifax. The Partnership does this by providing leadership on economic issues, delivering meaningful programs, building partnerships across sectors, and marketing Halifax to the world.
On their behalf, we are seeking a Chief Economist who understands the local and regional economy and how macro-economic conditions, nationally and internationally, affect the city and the region.
What qualities are needed in this role?
Most important, as Chief Economist, you must want to make a significant contribution to the growth and success of Halifax. You will do this by providing competitive economic intelligence and thoughtful analysis on the Halifax economy and then applying this knowledge in the form of practical advice, strategic plans, program development and assessment and stakeholder communications.
Possessing a Master of Economics degree (or equivalent), your skills in research, analysis, forecasting and model building are strong. As you will be called upon frequently to speak publicly on economic issues, your communication and media relations skills must be well-developed. It is particularly important that you be able to communicate complex economic ideas to non-technical audiences.
In addition to technical proficiency in economics, you have exceptional organizational and project management skills. You will also provide direction and mentoring to a skilled team of economists and researchers so that they grow and develop in their roles.
The Chief Economist reports directly to the President and CEO and serves on the Partnership’s senior management team. In this capacity, you will contribute to the long-term strategic direction of the organization.
