Application Systems Administrator – Umbian – Halifax City, Nova Scotia

The Application Systems Administrator will be a key member of our Application Support team. In this role you will work with architecture, infrastructure and applications teams to ensure efficient and secure operations of Umbian Healthcare Informatics (HI) suite of applications. You will be responsible for requirements gathering, implementation support, and application/systems administration. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of working in a highly collaborative environment delivering high quality products and services that exceed customer expectations.

The Application Systems Administrator may also be required to work with Patient Health Information (PHI) and will be required to adhere to Umbian PHI policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Work closely with Marketing, Product Development, and Software Support teams within Umbian  in support of HI applications and implement necessary solutions
Have strong functional and technical understanding of HI systems and their architecture
Work with other HI application support analysts to develop good quality solutions to assist with the support operations
Participate in the release process of new versions of applications
Monitor and trouble shoot critical components of the overall solution
Triage and address incidents and requests for services or information as reported by end user community
Adhere to change management process including creating and maintaining required documentation
Engage with 3rd party vendors on product support issues and escalation procedures
Serve as team member responsible to maintain high system availability, including taking part in a 24×7 on call rotation
Participate in the evolution and growth of HI support functionality
Implements systems improvements by assessing current situation; evaluating trends; anticipating requirements
In cooperation with the security, infrastructure and applications teams, conduct hardware/ software audits of HI’s Product Environments for compliance with established standards, policies, procedures and configuration guidelines

Qualifications & Skills

University degree or College diploma in a relevant discipline
Minimum of 2 years of application systems administration experience
Practical experience in applications operations support and incident management
Experience in Microsoft Windows Server general systems management
Experience in Linux general systems management
Experience working with RDBMS, primarily MS SQL
General knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy
General knowledge of IP networking technologies
Intermediate scripting knowledge in areas of system task automation
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Detailed and process oriented
Familiarity with VMware virtualization technologies
Familiarity with Middleware products (ActiveMQ, Tibco, etc.)
Familiarity with Java and/or .NET programming languages
Familiarity with Microsoft Clustering technologies and configurations
Familiarity with Splunk, AppDynamics, or other monitoring platforms
Experience with Sensitive Data Environments (PCI, HIPAA, etc.) preferred
Medical device industry experience preferred
