Application Developer-Desktop – Concordia University College of Alberta – Edmonton, AB

Concordia University College of Alberta invites applications for an Application Developer-Desktop. This is a full-time, permanent position (37.5 hours/week) reporting to the Director of Information Technology Services. The Application Developer – Desktop makes use of Delphi, Visual Studio, NetBeans, Eclipse and related tools to develop and maintain Concordia’s in-house software, including its Student Information System, as well as to integrate externally developed software and services with Concordia’s systems as well as external (e.g. government) systems. In addition, the Application Developer will perform database design and maintenance to support application development.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Technical Diploma or Degree in Computing Science or related discipline or equivalent experience
Embarcadero Delphi Developer Certification
3+ years of experience in software development and maintenance, including experience in Delphi
Demonstrated proficiency with PHP and related Frameworks (e.g. Phalcon, Laravel, CodeIgniter)
Demonstrated proficiency with SQL
Ability to set priorities and work independently
Demonstrated proficiency performing unit testing, debugging, and maintenance
Superior analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
Proficiency in database architecture and design
Demonstrated ability to learn new programming languages and technologies
Effective human relations skills
Ability and willingness to work under pressure to meet deadlines

Responsibilities:

Develop, maintain, and support in-house developed applications;
Review business requirements and recommend appropriate system changes/design features;
Perform technical research, requirements analysis, high level and technical design, and implement new functionality;
Troubleshoot and respond to production/testing issues;
Perform unit testing;
Develop applications using Delphi, PHP, and SQL;
May lead a team to manage projects;
Write systems-level documentation; and
Other duties consistent and assigned to the role.

Annual salary range starts at $67,000 subject to candidates meeting all position requirements. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Concordia also offers a flex option benefit plan as well as a Defined Contribution Pension Plan that is employee/employer shared.
