Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will lead our you food literacy programs in local high schools in Thunder Bay, at our Urban Youth Farm in the summer season, co-facilitate the weekly AYP youth employment program throughout the school year, participate in community outreach events and will facilitate youth programs out of our office.
Specifically, responsibilities include:
Work closely with teachers and students during the school year to facilitate food literacy and outreach activities in local schools;
Work closely with other program facilitators to coordinate school programs and youth outreach;
Work closely with the kitchen and food director and program director to develop and facilitate programs for youth at the Roots indoor and outdoor cooking spaces;
Co-lead the leadership and delivery of the Urban Youth Farm Program and the Academic Year Program that employs youth from the summer and part-time throughout the school year;
Assist with community outreach events that promote the aims and purpose of Roots to Harvest throughout the year;
Assist with on-going maintenance and care for urban agriculture sites in Thunder Bay.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
Experience designing and facilitating fully-developed lesson plans and workshop outlines that are:
Designed for groups of varying ages, genders, cultural backgrounds, abilities and individuals who have experienced marginalization
Hands-on and engaging
Experience cooking and at least some understanding gardening and composting
Demonstrated ability to work respectfully with others, including in a facilitation role
Demonstrated ability to work within a diverse community (people of different ages, abilities, cultural backgrounds etc)
Strong oral speaking, communications and interpersonal skills
Very comfortable and enjoy working with teenagers and adults
Valid Class G drivers license with a clean driving record
Current safe food handling and first aid certification (or willingness to get)
