Youth Engagement Coordinator – The Climate Reality Project Canada – Toronto

Who You Are
You are passionate about the mission of the Climate Reality Project to empower citizens from all paths of life through a distributed engagement model, and you are very familiar with climate science, solutions and youth-led mobilization. You enjoy community organizing and hands-on engagement. You are committed to solving the climate crisis through deep citizen engagement, effective mobilization and multi-stakeholder convening. You are committed to diversity and inclusion, have a passion for social and environmental justice and an enthusiasm for operating in an intercultural work environment. You are a problem-solver who loves: to create, design and operationalize processes to support youth; to build and lead ambitious programs; to help embed equity more effectively in the climate movement; and to use resources efficiently to maximum the real-world impact of grassroots advocates.
As well as being an academic systems thinker and youth engagement facilitator, the Youth Engagement Coordinator will be someone who pays close attention to detail and deadlines, is exceptionally organized. The ideal candidate has outstanding skills and experience for convening relationships, mobilizing, and engagement. Though they love team work and consider themselves a social butterfly, they enjoy working autonomously and are comfortable taking initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Youth Engagement
Oversee the implementation and success of our strategic planning priorities, tactics and targets for youth engagement;
Identify, establish, and apply, in coordination with the Community Engagement Manager, the needs and best practices in terms of youth volunteer management, in order to create a positive, loyal and mutually beneficial relationship with them;
Ensure the recruitment for Climate Reality Leadership Corps Trainings, welcoming, orientation, monitoring and appreciation of youth CRLs;
Foster cross pollination between CRPC’s programs and create opportunities for youth to get involved in various programs and other aspects of the organization’s work;
Empower youth to take on leadership positions in the community across Canada;
Amplify young voices through Climate Reality Project Canada’s communications;
Develop and manage partnerships with youth-led organizations to build momentum and increase collective impact;
Support and encourage Lead Mentors and Regional Organizers to connect with youth involved in climate action in their regions, as well as the Regional Engagement Coordinators in the organization’s four priority regions (Northern and Atlantic Canada, rural Québec, and the Prairies);
Provide educational and training opportunities for youth for better understanding climate justice and environmental racism issues;
Connect youth to new opportunities provided by community partners to amplify our impact;
Develop projects, events and activities (coaching sessions, workshops, webinars, etc.) on various topics to empower youth to act on climate change;
Collect, analyze the empirical and qualitative data to identify best practices and to create reports that shed light on the impact of our activities with youth;
Select, supervise and guide interns (when applicable);
Collaborate internationally with other branches’ Youth Engagement Coordinators to create global cohesion within the youth movement and share resources across the organization
Campus Corps Program
Build the program by recruiting members and supporting them to enhance their impact;
Respond promptly and adequately to intermittent and recurrent needs of current and potential members;
Support Chapters in the planning, implementation, reporting and evaluation of their campaigns;
Conduct site visits of Campus Corps Chapters in order to run trainings, host days –of action, develop new and existing Chapters, and help drive campaigns forward;
Build relationship with students, faculty, and administrators, and help build bridges between these stakeholders;
Generate local and national earned media, in collaboration with CRPC’s Communications team;
Guide and empower student leaders in their quest to decarbonize their campuses, notably through – but not limited to – the following: reducing GHG emissions on campus (energy, transport, procurement, etc.), incorporating climate justice in the curriculum, and leading academic institutions towards divestment from fossil fuels.
Track and report campaign metrics and narratives as needed;
Assist with regular reporting to our partners and grant makers;
Adapt and create Campus Corps materials for other levels of education, for example high schools and elementary schools;
Ensure that all of the Campus Corps program resources are available in English and in French;
Other duties as assigned.

National Climate League: Campus Edition (NCLC)
In close collaboration with the National Campaign Manager, lead and coordinate the NCLC to ensure widespread participation and strong engagement, notably from Campus Corps members, researchers, and university staff;
Manage the collection of the content and academic reviews of the NCLC Standings, and ensure its overall quality and coherence;
Plan public launch events for our Chapters, in collaboration with our multiple stakeholders;
Equip Campus Corps members to share Standings results on their campuses and to use the Standings as a lobbying tool;
Develop slides and talking points on the NCLC Campaign for the Campus Corps Chapters and CRPC;
Review all the material, planning tools and communications tools (including digital and online forms) in preparation for the next season of the Standings;
Amplify the Standings’ content and create opportunities for the participants to use its data to promote campus solutions to address the climate crisis;
Innovate and implement best practices in terms of crowdsourcing.

Education & Experience:
Having obtained, or is in the process of earning, an undergraduate diploma in environmental science, political science, sustainable development or a similar field;
1-2 years’ experience in volunteer organizing and management (campus organizing or student advocacy experience preferred);
Experience with developing and managing campaigns and achieving ambitious goals;
Experience with coalition work;
Strong ease with tracking and analyzing metrics and data;
Having completed a Climate Reality Leadership Corps Training is considered a strong asset.

Skills & Qualifications:
A passion for, and knowledge of, climate change science and solutions is required;
Fully bilingual in French and English; strong written and spoken skills in both languages;
Demonstrated track record of leadership development and of outstanding organizational skills;
Self-starter with the ability to adopt and run with a project skillfully;
Excellent planning and self-management systems;
Ability to manage deadlines and multi-task;
Strong problem-solving ability;
Detail- and result-oriented thought;
Ability to manage and to quickly adjust to changing priorities;
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, notably Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
A dedication to justice and equity, and to solving the climate crisis.
Great interpersonal skills;
Confidence giving oral presentations to various ages, both in person and virtually;
Ability to supervise interns;
Willingness and availability to travel;
Familiarity with Airtable is considered an asset.
