Utilities Operator I
The Successful Applicant must be a Grade 12 graduate, who has supplemented their education with either: a minimum of Class I Certificate of Competency, issued by the BC Environmental Operators Certification Program, (or Provincial equivalent), in at least one of the following: Water distribution systems – Wastewater collection systems – Wastewater treatment – Water treatment OR has graduated from a recognized training institute with a diploma in Water/Wastewater Management. The successful applicant will have a minimum of one (1) year related experience in a municipal setting, or an equivalent combination of training and work experience. They must have a valid Level I First Aid and a Class 5 BC Drivers’ License. This unionized position (USW Local 1-1937) is a regular full time position, and is compensated at a Probationary Rate of $29.23 and a Regular Rate of $31.00 per hour (2021 rates) plus payment for specified certifications of $0.40/hr for Level I, $0.65/hr for Level II, and $0.80/hour for Level III for current water and wastewater certificates.
Utilities Operator II
The Successful Applicant must have graduated from a recognized training institute with a diploma in Water/Wastewater Management and/or Grade 12 graduation with an equivalent combination of academic training and work experience. They will have a minimum of Class I Certificate of Competency, issued by the BC Environmental Operators Certification Program, for the following: Water distribution systems – Wastewater collection systems – Wastewater treatment – Water treatment and a minimum of five (5) years progressive related experience in a municipal setting. Backhoe experience would be an asset. Required Occupational Certification includes: Confined Space Entry; Level I First Aid; Class 5 BC Drivers’ License; and Chlorine Handling. Must have the ability to provide leadership to more junior employees and to understand Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and troubleshoot control systems. This unionized position (USW Local 1-1937) is a regular full time position, and is compensated at Probationary Rate of $34.30 and a Regular Rate of $36.38 per hour (2021 rates) plus payment for specified certifications of $0.40/hr for Level I, $0.65/hr for Level II, and $0.80/hour for Level III for current water and wastewater certificates.
To be considered as either a Utilities Operator I or Utilities Operator II applicants must have: Knowledge of: water supply and distribution, and wastewater collection, treatment and disposal systems; maintenance practices as they pertain to water supply, treatment and distribution systems, wastewater collection systems and wastewater treatment plants; and WorkSafe B.C. regulations, job hazards and safe work practices. Ability to: communicate effectively and to deal courteously, tactfully and diplomatically with the public; work independently and as a team member; understand and apply the Regional District’s bylaws policies and procedures as they pertain to the Utilities: utilize a computer and Microsoft office software programs; Must be physically fit; have the ability to use hand tools, power tools and operate equipment; and able to work in all types of weather and occasionally work in confined spaces.
Hours of Work:
This position works 40 hours per week. Flex time and a comprehensive benefits package is offered with this position.
Salary: Ranging between $29.23 and $36.38 plus payment for certifications
