Urban Farm Assistant Grower – Backyard Edibles – Ottawa, Ontario

The Position:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to join our team for the 2019 season. The assistant grower will work alongside the farm team to help with all stages of production.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist with our indoor growing facilities: seeding, harvesting, packaging and deliveries, observing, managing and watering maintenance of crops.
Cleaning of growing area including cleaning microgreen trays, sweeping, mopping and general tidying of the facility.
Assisting with market harvest in our garden plots and post-harvest activities (washing & packing)

Qualifications:
Able to follow instructions carefully and accurately
Maintains attention to detail while keeping a steady pace of work
Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment
Positive attitude, sense of humour and a keen interest in urban farming
Willingness to perform physically demanding, repetitive and sometimes strenuous tasks
Experience working on organic vegetable farms/gardens is an asset
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset

Other Requirements:
30 years or younger as of April 1st, 2019
unemployed or underemployed
have graduated from a university, college, DEP, or CEGEP
have not participated in any other Youth Employment Strategy program (that is, Agricultural Youth Green Jobs Initiative and/or Career Focus Program)
a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
If you are an Indigenous youth applicant, you must be:
between ages of 15 and 30 years
unemployed or underemployed
have not participated in any other Youth Employment Strategy programs (that is, Agricultural Youth Green Jobs Initiative and/or Career Focus Program)
a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

Position Details:
Part-time, with potential for more hours throughout growing season.
Monday, Thursday, Friday 8am-5pm. Duties will be carried out in both our warehouse facility and garden plots.
May require weekend shifts
Salary: $14/hr
Term: Immediately until end of season with opportunity to extend to permanent position.
