The Role
We are seeking an organized, creative, energetic and collaborative person committed to supporting the professional development of Institute staff. Cross-reporting to the Indigenous Engagement and Research Senior Advisor and the Operations and Engagement Specialist, the Associate will support coordination of training for Institute staff that centres on BIPOC history, rights, culture and appropriate engagement and research approaches.
Specific tasks would include, but not be limited to:
Organizing monthly online training sessions, weekly “lunch and learns” and bespoke training on trauma-informed anti-oppressive and anti-racist practice;
Developing and coordinating a schedule for training programs, including polling staff availability and sending invitations with joining instructions;
Coordinating availability and preparation with speakers/trainers;
Facilitating the smooth technical delivery of virtual training sessions;
Capturing key learnings and application of knowledge through note-taking and/or using online collaboration tools;
Facilitating the post-event event follow-up with speakers/trainers;
Curating a list of Indigenous-created gift options;
With mentors, developing an evaluation process for each training/learning event; assess responses and adjust implementation plan;
Developing a best practices facilitation guide for Institute trainings; and
Contributing to other communication and engagement initiatives as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
University or College student in Indigenous Studies/Governance, Business or Human Resources Studies, Environmental Studies, or equivalent life experience;
Excellent relationship building with an ability to work and interact effectively with both community and academic organizations;
Knowledge of Indigenous-Canadian history, reconciliation and decolonization praxis;
Knowledge and experience working across divergent worldviews;
Knowledge of power and privilege and a passion to create change in a supportive environment.
Education and/or experience in planning, organizing, and developing training sessions;
Experience using online collaborative tools such as Zoom, Slack, Gsuite;
Detail-oriented, with a strong desire to learn and support the learning of others.

Work is done in a virtual environment with Institute staff located across the country. The selected candidate would work from home and must be based in Canada.
The role is a twelve-week work experience position. A minimum of 450 hours over the twelve-week period is required.
Salary will be up to $20-$25/hour, depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
