The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent part-time Switchboard Operator. Under the general supervision of the Manager, Police Operational Support, the incumbent performs all aspects of switchboard duties on non-emergency telephone lines; dispatches and receives radio messages; opens files; completes data entry and processes information on the Police Records Information Management Environment (PRIME).
Applicants will have completed Grade 12, plus a minimum 6 month Applied Business Technology or Administrative Assistant training program at an accredited education institution (e.g. VIU or Sprott Shaw). A minimum of 3 months related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is also required. Attainment and maintenance of RCMP Reliability/Security Clearance is mandatory.
This is a unionized position. $30.74 per hour – after Probation (Jul 2016 Rate). A comprehensive benefit package is included. This position involves shift work covering a
24-hour, 7-day operation. Extensive weekend and night shift work is required. Hours of work for the permanent part-time position are 0-48 hours per week, depending on the workload.
