Sustainable Building Project Assistant – Plenty Canada – Carleton Place, Ontario

PLENTY CANADA is a registered non-profit organization that facilitates access to and shares resources with Indigenous peoples and other community groups around the world in support of their environmental protection and sustainable development goals.

Work Tasks and responsibilities:

To assist with the development of the Plenty Canada Sustainable Technologies Center (PCSTC) involving the implementation and performance monitoring of solar heating (water), photovoltaic’s and wind charging systems for the production of electricity, a bioseptic system, rain water capture and other appropriate technologies. The PCSTC will include the development of facilities for training in traditional natural resource management including a kitchen, meeting room and overnight facilities. Other duties include the maintenance of existing buildings and conservation and energy efficiency efforts including education.

Fields of studies:

Construction Heritage Program, Advanced Housing Program, Architectural Technology, Construction Carpentry, Environmental Studies, etc. Studies in various building design and technologies as well as the management of environmental systems all relate to either the actual development of these technologies (which is still on going and will be for a few more years) or the managing of the education and data collection associated with the current development stage and the anticipated developed PCSTC.

Hours: 35 hours/week

Start date: negotiable

Eligible students:

are between 15 and 30 years of age;
have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
are Canadian citizens or permanent residents or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (foreign students are not eligible); and
are legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
