Summer Day Camp Director – Soaring Eagle Nature School – Burnaby

Responsibilities would include and are not limited to:
On-site coordinating of summer day-camps in North Vancouver or Vancouver (upon application select which location)
Available and on-site for all camps
Upholding mission of Soaring Eagle Nature School at all programs and camps
Sign in kids at the beginning of the day, and sign out at the end of the day
Lead the daily meeting with all Instructors each day before and after camp to facilitate sharing of intentions, gratitude, plan for the day, and feedback
Supporting Instructors with program ideas and implementation
Giving Instructors scheduled breaks by instructing their group for a period each day
Confidently handling student and family affairs, setting boundaries and communicating openly
Answering inquiries from parents & liaising between parents and staff
Bringing gear on-site (Camp T-shirts, tarps, first aid, maps, radios etc.)
Carrying medical information for campers Understanding all of the Emergency Procedures, and having a clear risk management plan for each day
Holding space for all forms of safety
Working in ALL kinds of weather – camps run rain or shine!
Exercising a healthy sense of humour
The ideal candidate will demonstrate familiarity and understanding of the following:
Desire to use your gifts to help guide people into a closer connection with the natural world
Comfort in handling staff, student, and family affairs in a competent, open and professional way
Experience working with children and youth aged 4 -12
Excellent group facilitation skills for kids and adults
Understanding and practice of effective, clear and compassionate communication skills
Creative and crafty with a love of making cool things with your hands out of natural materials
Naturalist skills and a desire to keep learning these

Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years experience mentoring children and adults
Minimum 1 year experience interfacing with parents and families
Standard First Aid & CPR C (will be required by date of hire)
Clear Criminal Record Check (will be required by date of hire)

A vehicle for transporting gear
Course graduate of the Wilderness Awareness School, Regenerative Design and Nature Awareness Program or similar program
Bachelor or Master’s Degree in education or environmental degree
Child Development Expertise
Wilderness First Aid

Dates:
Summer Camp staff training is June 19 – 23. Hours are full time in the summer, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday – Friday. (1 week off July 31 – Aug 4.) Last day of Camp is August 25.
If applying to continue in the fall, this position is a range of 16-30 hours per week. Hours will fluctuate based on availability and experience.

Compensation:
Summer Camp Director starting wage is $23-$26/hr based on experience and availability.
+ 4% Vacation Pay
1 week paid training
Training & professional development sessions throughout the year
Health & Dental benefits through Pacific Blue Cross ( 50% of Monthly premium covered) for staff working in year-long programs who work a minimum 20 hours/week
