The Regional District of Nanaimo has a temporary employment opportunity for a Special Projects Assistant in the Solid Waste Services Department.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting Solid Waste Services staff with all facets of the residential curbside collection program. Responsibilities will include performing curbside checks to monitor residential understanding of, and compliance with, curbside collection requirements. The Special Projects Assistant will also assist in researching and compiling regional recycling information, reviewing, analyzing and updating a variety of web content, compiling customer service data, and may be involved with related Solid Waste planning, programs and initiatives as required.
Qualifications include completion of two years in an undergraduate or college program in environmental science, geography, or related program, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. An understanding of solid waste and recycling management practices is desirable. A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License is required. Strong written and communication skills are necessary in this position, as well as the ability to deal with the public in a tactful manner. This position will include working outdoors in all weather conditions to complete the curbside checks.
This is a temporary full time Union position (35 hours per week) from November 20, 2017 through to
May 30, 2018 with the possibility of ending early or extension based upon the operational needs of the department. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
