Covenant Farm produces fresh microgreens and greens throughout the winter in heated and un-heated greenhouses for a year-round CSA, Farmers’ Market and wholesale customers.
Applicants will have at least 2 years experience working on a CSA/market garden farm, are business savvy, have detailed observation capabilities and strong problem solving abilities, highly developed communication skills, are physically fit, and are capable of using farm equipment (BCS + tractor).
Interest in food processing and recipe development, community building, sustainable food systems and bilingualism an asset.
Covenant Farm is hiring a responsible, dependable, focused and punctual person who can work over-time when needed. Good humour, respect, passion, and honesty a must. Candidate must have a car and mobile phone.
Tasks:
Working in close collaboration and partnership with farm owner/manager
Supervise occasional and part-time staff
Maintaining accurate and consistent production records
Maintaining a clean and ordered working environment
Microgreen production: planting schedule, production calculations, watering/irrigation, harvest and harvest schedule, seed inventory, packaging inventory
Planting in greenhouses (planting schedule)
Managing greenhouse heating system (wood fired boiler 95% efficiency)
Composting spent soil/growing medium
Greenhouse irrigation/watering
Greenhouse ventilation and climate control, floating row covers,
Weeding
Harvesting: schedule, calculations, washing, packing
Assembling weekly CSA baskets
Delivering wholesale orders (Ottawa / Vankleek Hill)
Occasional Farmers’ Market sales
Feeding and watering chickens daily
Collecting, cleaning, packing eggs
This is a 6-month contract starting November 2nd, 2015 ending April 29th, 2016 with a 1-month probation period. The work schedule is 30 to 40 hours a week, possibility to work 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. Starting salary is minimum wage with evaluation and a raise according to experience at the end of the 1-month probation period (13$-16$/hour scale). There is possibility to renew contract for summer season. The contract begins with a 2-week intensive training. On-farm housing possible.
