Work tasks and responsibilities:
The Urban Agriculture Facilitator will work to with the SPEC team to support the school garden community groups that maintain the food gardens during the summer months. The student will regularly visit the different school gardens to weed, water and engage with community groups involved in garden maintenance.
Eligibility
To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, individuals must:
be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act6
be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
the job requires having a Criminal Record Check done.
Skills and Qualifications:
Passion for urban agriculture and environmental conservation
Sound food growing experience
Experience and interest in working with school aged children and their families
Outreach and or engagement experience
Capable and willing to travel across the city in summer months, preferably via bicycle or public transportation
Capable of heavy lifting including garden implements, hoses, etc.
30 hours a week at $12/hour, starting July 6th and running until August 28th (8 weeks)
