Roads & Solid Waste Supervisor
Position Summary
The Roads & Solid Waste Supervisor plans, schedules and implements budgeted maintenance, operation and/or construction programs within the Roads & Solid Waste Division of the Public Works Department. The Roads & Solid Waste Supervisor is responsible for the day to day preparation, installation, maintenance and repair of City infrastructure including roads, signs, storm water management and related infrastructure. This position also oversees the solid waste division and all related duties. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. The candidate may also have a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (or an equivalent combination of education and experience in public works design and/or road construction and maintenance) and two years’ experience at a supervisory level (preferably in a Union environment) in the repair and maintenance of roads and related infrastructure.
Salary
The 2014 pay rate as per the CUPE Collective Agreement is $29.74 per hour. (2015 rate under negotiation)
Hours of Work
This is a full time position with hours of work as outlined in the CUPE Local 900 Collective Agreement.
Essential Qualifications
High School graduation.
Strong leadership, strong interpersonal skills, and a proven team player.
Ability to work independently, under pressure, set priorities and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication skills (oral and written) as well as the ability to deal with the public and coworkers in a diplomatic and courteous manner.
Demonstrated experience in delivering superior customer service and working within a team environment.
Ability to efficiently use Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
Valid BC Class 3 Driver‘s License with air endorsement.
Preferred Qualifications
Diploma or Certificate in Civil Engineering Technology
Level 2 EOCP Water Distribution Certification or level 1 with the ability to obtain level 2.
Level 1 EOCP Wastewater Collection.
Level 1 First Aid.
Crane Operators Certification
Experience
Minimum two years supervising a work crew of 5 or more.
Minimum two years operating backhoes, dump trucks and road maintenance equipment.
Minimum two years winter operations maintenance.
Minimum two years recent experience in a similar position working primarily with road building or maintenance.
Minimum two years working with water systems, sanitary systems, storm water systems, and road maintenance, preferably in a local government setting.
