Research Assistant – RFS Energy Consulting & Research Group Inc. – Ontario

Position Summary:
RFS Energy Consulting & Research Group Inc. (RFS Energy Group) is a small, Canadian sustainability consulting firm that brings people together to propel planning, research and climate change policy into action. We are a fun and passionate team of energy efficiency & strategic planning experts based in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto & Halifax.
We are seeking a self-motivated and passionate team member to support RFS Energy Group on a variety of research projects related to strategies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions such as remote work, energy efficiency and electric vehicles.

In order to qualify for this internship, you must self-identify as a First Nation, Inuit or Métis youth (18 to 30) and be eligible to work in Canada.

Responsibilities:
The Research Assistant’s primary roles and responsibilities will be to:
Attend regular project meetings and RFS team meetings
Conduct background and market research on a variety of topics related to sustainability
Review and summarize project background documentation and identify information gaps
Support data collection and analysis activities such as developing and carrying out surveys, interviews and focus groups and identifying trends and insights to inform policy and program recommendations
Build relationships with project partners, stakeholders and communities
Assist in the development of communication and marketing materials
Assist in the creation of project reporting & summary documents, including design, copy editing and project statistics
Support funding proposal development

Education, Experience & Skills
Necessary
Knowledge of and passion for environmental issues, especially clean energy, the just transition, net zero or energy efficiency.
Comfortable working remotely using online platforms for check-ins and meetings (Google Meet, Zoom, etc.) and strong computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite & cloud-based software.
Ability to manage tasks independently in a virtual environment while communicating closely with colleagues and supervisors on an ongoing basis.
Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and spoken.
Excellent time management, organizational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable
The ideal candidate is a recent graduate or soon to be graduate with research experience in one of the following fields: Environmental Studies, International Development, Business Administration, Public Relations, Marketing or other related discipline.
Direct work or volunteer experience in the environmental or climate-related field is preferred but not required.
Community engagement, facilitation and/or event planning experience is considered a strong asset.
Data collection and research experience, including developing and administering surveys and conducting qualitative interviews is considered an asset.
An eye for design and ability to create visually appealing reports, infographics and slides.
Interest in working in an entrepreneurial, small business environment.

Working Conditions:
RFS Energy Group operates in a remote work environment. Some travel is occasionally required.
