Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Climate Leadership, the Research Assistant provides policy related research and analytical support while participating and supporting community outreach for the Better Homes Kingston program and the implementation of the Climate Leadership Plan community actions.
Responsibilities include:
Conduct research and analysis, using qualitative and quantitative data in areas including mitigation strategies for the reduction of ghg emissions, carbon budget and climate lens.
Support the city’s Climate Leadership Division through research, creation of briefing materials, support to engagement on the Better Homes Kingston program and the community implementation of the Climate Leadership Plan actions
Support the city’s Climate Leadership Division in the development of content for a newsletter and website on Change for Climate
Prepare and edit reports, briefing notes, correspondence, presentations, and other documents
Maintain awareness of local municipal issues, including monitoring social media websites, newspapers, and other local media coverage
Perform benchmarking studies, and research best practices
Provide general office administration support. Duties may include; filing, sorting, and data entry.
Respond to employee and/or customer enquiries in person, over the phone, or by email.
Contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of projects and initiatives.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Competencies
Studying for a degree in Environmental Studies, Public Administration, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Political Science, or related field.
Experience with the federal, provincial, municipal or post-secondary student governments an asset.

Organizational and time management skills with a capacity to learn.
Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check at candidates’ expense.
